Coincidentally I was in the British Museum yesterday and saw the exhibition of Renaissance drawings, including Leonardo, Michelangelo, Rafael etc etc....
a lot of them did rough sketches and then put pinpriciks around the outlines and put chalk through, transferring the pencil sketch to the canvas to be painted up. Fascinating stuff. They could certainly draw!
